Side Hustles Can Be Harder In Certain Regions.

I read a great article containing some great ideas for creating a side hustle business but I can tell you that many of the suggestions won’t work where I currently reside. I’m sure that there are other folks who read these lists and have the same reaction as I do.

When you say side hustle, you automatically think of Uber or Lyft driving, meal delivery, dog walking, dog sitting, house sitting, or even baby sitting. These are great jobs if you live in an area with a good population but I currently live in a small town of 150 people.

You can walk everywhere and anyone who wants a car, has one so driving is out of the question. Furthermore, the two grocery stores will deliver if you do not have a vehicle and can’t get it home. If someone needs a ride, a family member helps out and you don’t charge for that.

As far as meal delivery in terms of ordering meals from a restaurant, there are no restaurants here. Occasionally, the sports teams at the school will have a fund raiser but the kids will deliver.

No one walks dogs around here as such. The dogs are tied outside or the owner lets them run loose around the village. If they leave the village, a family member will keep an eye on the animal so no one needs a pet sitter.

The only things I can do in the village are ones that are digitally based such as selling print on demand things, digital products, online teaching or coaching, working online or being a virtual assistant. For many of these jobs, you need a good internet connection but again in this village, the internet is not completely reliable.

This past December, it went down for almost a month before the internet company finally figured out where the bad piece of equipment was located. In addition, the local phone service is still only 2G. I’m told, the phone company hopes to update it to 3G in the next year or two. It just means that you try a bit harder if you have a side hustle.

The last thing about a side hustle is that it takes a while to build any sort of business that does well enough to provide a decent amount of money. You have to find your niche, build your clientele, and have a lot of patience. In case you are wondering, I do have my own side hustle which currently brings in a little bit of money each month but I plan to expand my offerings once I get somewhere with reliable internet.

I’m sure there are others out there who have the same restrictions I face. Yes, we have to get a bit more creative but it’s possible to create a sideline, it just takes patience and work. Let me know what you think, I’d love to hear. Have a great day.
