Resolutions Are For Anytime.

Most of us have been raised to believe that we make a nice list of resolutions every New Year and by March, most people have fallen by the wayside. Usually, the list is made up of a minimum of three or four items that we throw ourselves into doing.

But why must we try to meet all the resolutions at once or give up on them if we don’t succeed. To me a resolution is simply a promise to try to change some facet of my life that needs improvement.

Instead, make one resolution or identify one habit or lifestyle facet you want to change. Narrow the resolution into something that one can easily complete. Work on making this change successful over the next 30 days since it takes that long to make it a habit.

Once the change is made, decide on the next resolution you want to focus on. Again, be specific about the goal and the way you will attack it. Once the plan is in place, begin working on this new habit, and work on it for at least 30 days. In the meantime, you are continuing with the first change since its a habit.

You continue this way, working through the list until you’ve made it. On the other hand, if you get off track, don’t give up. Instead, take a breath, forget what happened before, and start anew. It is important, not to look at what happened before, rather look to see what derailed you and try to avoid that. Don’t decide you should give up, just start again.

Furthermore, if we decide we need to make a change, don’t wait till January 1st. Decide that on Sunday, you’ll start working on this resolution. If you don’t like Sunday, make your starting date Monday. Any day is the beginning of a new year so you can start anew.

Humans stumble, fall, and fail all the time but if we just pick ourselves up and start again, we will succeed. Remember, you don’t have to do it all at once. you can spread the resolutions out through the year so you only focus on one at a time.

I honestly believe that too many set themselves up for failure by trying to fulfill all the resolutions at once. if we spread them out, I think we set ourselves up for success. Let me know what you think, I’d love to hear. Have a great week.
