Hate Paying Additional Tax

I’m on another trip. This one is about four weeks long and I’m on the second week. Last week, I was in Tokyo and this week, I’m in Sydney. The one thing common between the two places is simply the way they handle takes.

In Tokyo, they list the price before and after tax but when you check out they charge you the after tax price so when you get the total, it is done and you don’t have to hope you have enough money. In Australia, it appears to be the same way. The price you see listed is what you pay.

In the United States, the prices listed do not include taxes because taxes are usually under the states domain. In addition, some counties add a bit more to the state amount and the total amount of tax could vary from location to location. The way it is set up, you don’t know the total amount of tax paid is not known until you check out.

Honestly, I prefer having the tax included as part of the actual price so I don’t have to remember to save enough money to cover the tax. It makes it easier to stay within my budget when I know the prices include all taxes.

In fact, most places I’ve visited include taxes in the listed price. I think the United States and Canada are the only countries that charge taxes when you check out. Many places I visit show a break down of the price and taxes when I check out but they don’t add anything extra at checkout.

Let me know what you think, I’d love to hear. Have a great day.
