Going Backwards!!!!
Yesterday, I read about how the military is removing any photos that seem to show diversity, equity, and inclusion. The three things this country has been working towards for a very long time. We were not close to establishing it but we were on the road.
It appears they fired two members of the Joint Chief of Staff due to either color or being a woman. They want to replace one with someone who looks nice and white, is a yes man, and doesn’t hold the qualifications needed for the job.
Now the military is going through many of its years of photos to get rid of any that can be classified as DEI, including photos of the Enola Gay, a plane named after the pilots mother. The name “Gay” used to be a perfectly respectable female name and it also used to mean happy. But, over the past several years it has gone through a mutation to mean stupid or not great and then used to describe certain members of the LGBQT+ community.
Does this mean, they will also get rid of all the photos of those who fought for equality in the services such as the Tuskegee airmen, the women who broke glass ceilings, and those of ethnicities other than while will disappear from the pages of history?
It also seems that the algorithm used to cut certain grants and such is only looking for certain key words without checking context. Imagine, they are canceling funding that supports the biodiversity of plants since the word diversity is included as part of the word. We don’t know how many of these are happening since their is no accountability of things.
This move is going so far as to have wonderful painting in Washington, D.C celebrating the fact that black lives matter. It is another way they are trying to remove DEI from America and it is rediculous. Are they going to remove all visual celebrations of women, hispanics, natives, etc just because of diversity?
I am saddened by this. I see it as the governments way of trying to hide all the contributions made by blacks, hispanics, women, and all the others who are not white and male. We should not let them bury America’s rich heritage. This country was promoted as a place where everyone is welcome but now it seems to be only for those who have tons of money and not for the everyday person who lives paycheck to paycheck, trying to make it.
Thank you for reading this. Let me know what you think, I’d love to hear.
