Ads Can Be Focused On The Wrong Thing.
Most of the apps I use tend to be the free versions. Unfortunately, that also means that I have to sit through a variety of ads. I understand the creators of these apps have to make money, so I don’t have a problem with that. I do have a problem with the ads themselves.
First off, I can tolerate adds for other games but I hate the ones where the character playing the new game is always making mistakes. I want to get rid of it and have to put up with the popup asking me to download it, finding where they put the stupid X, or even the arrow to forward it.
What I hate even more, are those ads showing someone who is heavier than the ideal. The ad is showing how if you take this keto gummy, you will lose a ton of weight. The ad shows some celebrity like Kelly Clarkson using them and recommending them. Then you have to put up with being sent to some page that brags about its efficacy.
These ads sell a “quick fix” to weight loss that may or may not work. For someone desperate to lose weight it seems like a god send but for folks who suffer from body issues, it can be bad.
Either way, these ads steer people to focus on their shortcomings rather than helping them accept themselves as they are. As a society, we have an “ideal” look that changes but overall still pushes a certain body build and weight. Yes, women who are larger are making an appearance but the ones who seem to have the most influence match the percieved body build and weight.
I admit, I will not pay money to get rid of ads. Instead, I just close up the app and quit using it. In fact, many times, I’ll delete the app because I hate the focus on weight loss rather than on being healthy through diet and exercise.
These ads are the modern version of snake oil products. I hope I’m not the only one who feels this way. Let me know what you think, I’d love to hear. Have a great day..
